Hi there. My name is Adam.
This is my website. I program web-based systems and websites with PHP, MySQL, unobtrusive JavaScript and a healthy dash of CSS. I’ve got done work for clients with pockets both shallow and deep. I’ve written articles about CSS tricks, scripting techniques and business advice. My resume is available and I’m always interested in hearing about freelance projects.
Oh, I should probably mention that I live and breathe music. I've always got some kind of tunes going while I'm awake. If you are a band, a label or a company which specializes in music websites please, please, please contact me. I'd love to be a part of your work. Yay, music!
What I've learned past kindergarden
In the spring of 2003 I received my bachelor in Multimedia and Web Design. Fancy title, I know. But wait, there's more! When I was fifteen I started my first web page on the venerable Geocities. By the time I was sixteen, owing to my vast experience, I got a job with a small industrial tool sales company putting their FoxPro database online. After that I was hooked. I took a year after high school to work for a startup riding the falling crest of the bubble and helped them turn their website into something decent before my boss blew all our VC on hookers and blow. Those were really the days.
I've got a day-to-day job but I have a hard time sitting still so I've got a lot of other projects on the burner. Most are freelance work but a couple are near and dear to me. Some day soon I hope I'll be able to talk about them.
Past
I grew up in a wonderfully small town in Michigan. Not quite a tiny farm town but major metropolis it was not. Having lots of free time on my hands ended up being a problem until my dad bought an Atari 7800. Unbeknownst to dear dad, he has just signed the warrant on my life-long addiction to nerdiness. Thanks, dad!
During college I was selected – from everyone in the MultiWeb track – to be on an elite team of fellow students. We created a full-featured Flash site targeted at children aged five to eight. I created all code for the site and there were some fancy things like dynamic animations, video controls, inline preloading and more. I was pretty impressed with myself. Thankfully so was the client. Happily, I've moved on to more accessible and smarter web development these days.
Present
These days I work as Lead Programmer at a small, small, small non-traditional revenue marketing agency in San Diego. That basically means we do anything for a buck. I knock my job a lot but I've learned a lot about my job and the business world in general while I've been there. Plus, the small amout of people there means that not only do I wear a lot of hats (and I thought I hated hats) but I'm pretty much my own boss on day-to-day events. Not too shabby.
I've a new job! I now work for a university, doing a lot of their php and MySQL work. I'm surrounded by smart people and the work is hard but I think I'm happy with that. I like that I'm not the smartest one any more. I like knowing that somebody else can help me if I need it. The pay ain't bad either. This pretty much puts the kibosh on any extraneous freelance work. Unless you can make a sweet offer (or you're a non-profit with a good message) I'm going to be focusing on personal projects for the foreseeable future.
Here
This site was bought on a whim late one night. Thankfully my Lithuanian heritage provided me with a last name that was unlikely to get bought out by anyone except my family. I have another sandbox site, subtrackion.com, that was my first-ever domain purchase. I've had it for years but I think it's time to move my professional work to a more professional site.
Thanks
I'm not sure how to end this gracefully so I'll just say thanks to all the people who have had faith enough in me to trust my wild ideas and put up with my loud mouth. Mom, Dad (and the Mustang), Tim, Mike, the twins, Justin… thanks. Anybody else who feels they deserve a mention, just let me know. If you know me then you know how useless my memory is for names.
